MAQUET founds a subsidiary in Thailand

RASTATT. With the 35th Sales & Service Unit, the company from Rastatt positions itself in one of the most important healthcare markets in Southeast Asia.

With the foundation of a subsidiary, MAQUET is the first European manufacturer of medical-technology equipment to become directly engaged in the Thai market. The newly founded company offers its customers the complete MAQUET portfolio of products and services for operating theatre and intensive care unit covering three areas, heart and angioplasty, intensive care medicine and workplaces. MAQUET Thailand Co. Ltd. is at home in Bangkok. 50 employees work on the site. The company is a joint venture with B. Grimm Healthcare Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of the B. Grimm Group. Grimm has work successfully in the Thai market for more than 130 years.

MAQUET and B. Grimm have cooperated in Thailand since 1960 when B. Grimm was as a dealer selling MAQUET operating tables, lights and ventilation systems and offered customers the appropriate service for this medical-technology equipment. This year the company began with the sale of products for the heart and vascular surgery market.

MAQUET Thailand is managed by Philippe Rocher, he is furthermore Managing director for MAQUET South East Asia. Rocher has long-standing experience on the Asian markets and sees a considerable potential for growth for MAQUET in Thailand: "With the opening of our subsidiary we place ourselves on one of the most important markets of Asia. The Thai health market belongs to the fastest growing in the region. Today, most of the heart operations of Southeast Asia are performed in Thailand."

Thailand had a gross domestic product of 273.3 billion U.S. dollar in 2008 and lies in front of EU countries like Finland, Portugal or Ireland. With a population of 65 million, the country has increasingly established itself as a medical nodal point in Southeast Asia. Patients are provided with surgical and intensive medical care in about 1,500 hospitals. Thailand is regarded as one of the most important health markets in the region and consistently invests in high-quality medical equipment.
